El actual directorio de la Federación Peruana de Fútbol (FPF), estaría a punto de suprimir la Segunda División y dejar a la Copa Perú como único campeonato para poder ascender a la Primera División.

El contar con dos campeonatos para poder ascender a la Primera llegaría a su fin con la amenaza del nuevo directorio de la FPF, ya que estos buscan una mejoría para el fútbol peruano y a través de esta nueva reestructuración mejoraría la calidad y el nivel de los equipos nacionales.

Falta de apoyo

El Torneo de la Segunda División tiene muchos factores en contra, muestra de ello es que no cuentan con el apoyo total de la FPF, además de tener que luchar contra la prensa por no haber cantidad de difusión de este campeonato.
